•Auditions will be held on Monday, September 13th. Sign-up sheets will be posted in K105 in the fall.
•Help session for auditions will be held the week prior to auditions
•Auditioning students must be a member of one of the performing groups that meet during the school day.
(Singers, Chamber Choir, Chorale, Concert Chorus, Chamber or String Orchestra, Wind Ensemble, Green or White Band)
*The first rehearsal will be held on the Monday after auditions
*The Honors Jazz Choir meets every Monday evening 5:00-7:30. Students receive 2.5 independent study credits for the course and are required to perform at the TWO school jazz concerts, take a midterm and final exam, take private voice lessons, and sing at a voice recital in the Spring. Attendance at every rehearsal is required. If a student misses more than three rehearsals, they could be dropped from the ensemble and receive no credit. Students will be expected to learn their music prior to rehearsal.
•The audition will consist of three parts:
1. Sing the solo “All I Do is Dream of You” by Arthur Freed and Nacio Herb Brown along with accompaniment track below
*the accompaniment track is different than the piano part of the printed music
•you may take stylistic liberties with the song as long as the integrity of the melody remains, especially with the
a capella opening. I played it as written but you can interpret with your own tempo and phrasing.
•the music does not have to be memorized
*you will be given the starting pitch and sing the first verse of m. 9-16 a capella (out of a clear blue sky...)
•when you sing the word "same" in m.16, I will press play & you will sing through rest of the song with accomp. track
•practice and auditions tracks can be found below
2. Tonal Memory exercises
3. Range check
•You can listen to the examples below for inspiration - only the Judy Garland has the verse out front and only the first section of the
a capella version is in the correct key
